Learn With Ubuntu

While the Academy is invitation-based only, there are other more open formats and settings in which you can learn with us. Whether you are a player or coach, we have a number of different ways in which you can improve your game.

SKILLS SCHOOL | 1000 TOUCHES | COACHING COURSES

Skills Schools

The Ubuntu Skills Schools are our private coaching programs for footballers aged 7-12. While Ubuntu naturally focuses heavily on elite, high-performance development in Cape Town, since 2018, we have opened up our coaching to reach a wider audience, allowing young players from around the city the opportunity to experience 'The Ubuntu Way.'

We do this through our skills school programs, where we partner with clubs and communities to run a program for 7-12-year-old boys and girls from all levels. The children learn new skills through our 22 ball mastery ‘1,000 touches moves’, 1v1 attacking and defending, small-sided games, and a Bible-based life skill each week. We seek to do all this in a positive, safe, and fun environment, incorporating and training the local coaches within the community/club to help provide a longer-term impact on how players are coached in that area.

We have 3 locations around Cape Town:

Mitchell’s Plain (Brian Alexander: +27 71 398 9850)

West Coast (Stuart Daniels: +27 76 251 1714) &

Southern Suburbs (Kris Bergman: kris@ubuntufootball.com)

  • If you have a son or daughter that is aged between 7 - 12 years old and would like to know more about the Skills School in your area, then contact Kris Bergman at kris@ubuntufootball.com

1,000 Touches

Ubuntu’s 1,000 Touches program is designed to give players of all ages in our programs a great foundation for their skill development.  These skills are practiced regularly at our sites around Cape Town, as well as at the Ubuntu Football Academy.

Players with great hunger and desire to keep improving their skills in their own time tend to go further in their football than those who don’t.  We therefore encourage Ubuntu players to practice and master these skills at home. Whether you're in an Ubuntu program or not, why not try mastering these skills by clicking the button below.

Coaching courses

Are you interested in receiving coaching education from an Ubuntu Football Technical Director?

Ubuntu Football Academy is offering an opportunity for your club, LFA, or community to receive coach education. During this course, the Ubuntu methods and approach will be shared, with content practically contextualised to your setting. The course, led by Dave Waters (Technical Director at Ubuntu Football Academy), will take place over four hours. A 90-minute interactive practical session will be delivered, combining classroom-based instruction with practical coaching tips, including the ‘3D coaching model’, which helps coaches understand their ‘why’ in coaching.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Suggest a date and time: Choose a date and time that suits your club, LFA, or community

  2. Pick a 4-hour slot: Select a slot that works for everyone involved.

  3. Co-ordinate coaches: Ensure you have a minimum of 15 coaches from your club, LFA, or community.

  4. Co-ordinate players: Provide 14-16 players to coach.

  5. Provide a training space: Ensure you have a training space of 50x40m, with goals being ideal but not essential.

  6. Provide a suitable venue: Find a suitable venue for the classroom session, ensuring it has access to plugs and other necessary equipment.

  7. Provide an overview of your needs: Share your overall needs with the instructor so the course content can be tailored accordingly.

Cost: The basic cost for 15 coaches is R4,125 (R275 each). Additional coaches can be added at R200 per coach. (Printed coaching manuals (1v1/2v2 training) and classroom content are an additional cost of R75 each)
